Sheila Bersin MBE (Chair)

Sheila has been involved with older peoples’ issues for many years, being a founder member of the Halewood U3A (University of theThird Age). Through her previous work on the National Service Framework for Older People, Sheila was asked to help establish KOPV, and has held the post of Chair since its beginning. Sheila sits on the NW Older Peoples’ Advisory Group, and also on the UK OPAG, therefore is able to carry our voice far and wide. Sheila’s aim has always been to raise the profile of KOPV, and raise awareness of older peoples issues, locally, regionally and nationally.

Tom Best (Vice Chair)

Tom has been involved with Knowsley Older People’s Voice since the group was launched. He previously represented the views of older people on the Community Empowerment network (CEN), and now attends the Older People’s Partnership Board. Tom was also chair of the Housing Focus Group for the CEN, and now represent the views of the community on the Strategic Housing and Environment Partnership. Tom is also chair of the Care & Repair Advisory Group.

Derek McEgan (Vice Chair)

Derek lives in Prescot and has been involved in community work for the last 25 years. He was a borough councillor for 12 years and a town councillor for 8 years. Derek has also sat on various committees including Groundwork Trust, Health Authority, and school governor.

Pat Blair

Since retirement, Pat has fully immersed herself in supporting the local community. Amongst her many and varied roles is Pat’s involvement as Voluntary Information Officer for the National Association of Women’s Clubs in the North West. Pat is also a member of the Independent Monitoring Board of Liverpool Prison.

Tom Davies

Tom is 69 yrs old and has lived in Whiston for 47 years having grown up in Liverpool. He worked for St. Helens Corporation on the buses for many years as a conductor, driver, and then inspector, and retired in 1989. He has always been connected with voluntary work, and currently runs a luncheon club for pensioners in the Whiston area. Tom also has a keen interest in bowling and serves as treasurer for his local club.

Richard Sharples

Richard has been a member of KOPV since the start of the forum and has taken part in many activities on behalf of the group. He represents KOPV on the Outreach for Older People Group, and helped to develop the successful Outreach for Older People booklet. Richard has been a resident in Kirkby for the last 50 years, and is the treasurer for the Kirkby Senior Falls committee.

Roy Davies

Roy is 64 years old and has lived in Huyton most of his life. Since retiring from Fords motor company after 30 years, he has found time to involve himself in voluntary work. He has been Chair of youth and community, work with and for youth centres, and Trustee for the Millennium Green project. Roy is also a School Governor, and serves on the core group of Knowsley LINks.

Madeleine Cox

Madeleine is Chair of the Halewood Falls Collaborative, having been involved inthis group since its commencement, and is currently active in the Chair Exercise Group. She is also a member of the Halewood Health Forum, and an active supporter of Knowsley Older People’s Voice and its work. Madeleine qualified as a nurse and later worked in schools as a welfare assistant. She regularly attends St. Mary’s Church in Halewood.

Pauline Burrows

Pauline is a retired Social Worker, and has been connected with Kirkby for 56 years. Upon retirement, Pauline decided to champion the cause for older people, and now undertakes a number of voluntary roles, including Alzheimer’s Society, KOPV, Knowsley LINk, Carers, and Advocacy. She was instrumental in the setting up of Acorn Farm and remains a Trustee there.

Pauline is also very involved in her local church where she is a Eucharistic Minister, and is a school governor.

 Allen Stott

Allen worked for 35 yrs at the Ford Motor Company in Halewood. He was Trade Union Secretary and continues to be involved with Ford’s Retired Members association. Allen has lived in Prescot for 43 years, and is particularly interested in topics relating to Housing and Crime. He is married and has two grown up children and four grandchildren. When not involved in union business, Allen enjoys gardening.

Tom Fearns (Co-opted member)

Tom is currently the elected councillor for Halewood West. He chairs both the Housing Partnership and the Environment and Housing Scrutiny Committee for Knowsley Borough Council. Tom also represents the views of community members on the board for Knowsley Housing Trust.
